Rawesome Farm Buying Club Raided Again
Club Manager, Farmer and Weston Price Chapter Leader Arrested
Protest Rally Planned for 8:00am Thursday August 4

August 3, 2011—Los Angeles, California—Public Health Officials today descended once again on a buying club, that specializes in raw foods. Club organizer, James Stewart was arrested at his home, the locks to his personal residence were changed, his papers, money and computer seized. At the same time, farmer Sharon Palmer and Weston A. Price Foundation volunteer chapter leader Victoria Bloch Coulter were arrested. All three were charged with Section 182A-Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. Bond for James Stewart was set at $123,000. Bail for Bloch is recommended at $60,000. Bail for Palmer is recommended at $121,000.

All this, in a state where raw milk is perfectly legal to sell, and even available through retail stores. The issue seems to be the club’s use of a herdshare or boarding agreement for its dairy goats. Recently, the California Department of Food and Agriculture issued a cease-and-desist order to a farmer boarding dairy animals for the animal owners. Another farmer, Mike Hulme of Evergreen Acres goat farm in San Jose, received a cease-and-desist letter from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office. Hulme and several people with ownership interest in goats kept at the farm are suing the state and county for interfering with their right to enter into a livestock boarding contract.

The state insists the farmers need dairy licenses to conduct such operations.

“It is apparent that there is an orchestrated effort on the part of public health officials to curb raw dairy access in California, and around the nation,” declares Pete Kennedy, Esq., President of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund.

Arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow in Department 30, Los Angeles Superior Court, Fifth Floor, Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St., Los Angeles. Court opens at 8:30 a.m. The District attorney’s office says it is likely they are to go before the judge during the morning session.

A protest rally on the Los Angeles Courthouse Steps is planned for 8:00am tomorrow morning, when the three food rights activists are before the judge. Citizens concerned about access to healthy, locally produced foods are urged to attend.

Concerned citizens are asked to donate to the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, an organization that works to protect and expand consumer access to whole, unprocessed foods of their choice, and to pave the way for unregulated, direct trade between farmer and consumer. Visit their website for more details on food freedom and raw milk issues: http://farmtoconsumer.org.

ACTION ALERT: FOOD BUYING CLUB RAID IN LOS ANGELES

RAWESOME Raw Food Buying Club in Venice Beach, California was raided for the second time today and James Stewart, club organizer, is in jail with $123K bond set. Victoria Bloch, a Weston A. Price chapter leader, and farmer Sharon Palmer were also arrested.

Mark McAfee of Organic Pastures Dairy is organizing a protest rally tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. at the courthouse where the raw milk advocates are to be arraigned. Southern California citizens are urged to join Mark McAfee and food blogger Ann Marie Michaels.

Arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow in Department 30, Los Angeles Superior Court, fifth floor, Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St., Los Angeles. Court opens at 8:30 a.m. The district attorneys office says it is likely they are to go before the judge during the morning session.

ACTION TO TAKE

The office of the L.A. District attorney is fielding calls regarding the case. For more information, or to express concern about the governments actions, call 213-974-3512.

Also please call the Los Angeles television stations – KCBS, KNBC, KTLA, KABC – and ask them to cover the protest rally.

TALKING POINTS

Talking Points for speaking with elected official about this issue:

–Infringement of private property rights

–Misuse of state resources

–Denying citizens freedom of food choice

Ask your representatives in Congress to co-sponsor the Ron Paul bill lifting the ban on raw milk in interstate commerce; while not a factor in this case, it sends an important message about citizen access to raw milk.

See you soon! Have a healthy and OUTSPOKEN day!

By the way, all…this blog is not just my words and work…it is informative…a spot to come get all the info in one place…I wanted it out there for you to share! Please do!

  2. Kate M. says:

Don’t get me wrong – I love raw milk and milk products, I am a fan of your blog, and I’m not trying to harsh on your blog or WAPF or anything, but…
It just seems a bit disingenuous to suggest that this is an example of open state discrimination against the raw milk community, when it looks like it may just be a run-of-the-mill licensing issue with this particular herdshare. I mean, there are other purveyors of raw milk in California who are able to distribute and sell their products without undue state interference, right? Presumably they are licensed by the state, and have no issue getting their product to market.
This herdshare is not above the law. These defendants had notice that they needed a license – that is what the cease and desist order represented. They made a choice to disregard the order. That was probably a bad decision on their parts.

    • alternefit says:

      Hey Kate,

First, I want to say thank you for reading my blog, and I am glad you enjoy it. I love to connect with people, and hope to bring a world of information we can all share! I am glad you are a part of that!

I understand where you are coming from; however, my point is that there is absolutely NO reason to raid the place with armed agents, and pour out products, confiscate food, take lists of the members, and do the ridiculous things they did. I’m not saying that the herdshare was above the law. I am saying that the excessive force is reminisce of a police-state action. Simply put, the agencies could have handled this as they would with corporations who do not renew or get permits or some other act that plenty of them have done. This was absolutely ridiculous! It was a show of unnecessary force that does not seem to happen to corporations or the like. This is not the only case of this either (see the links in the blog link I posted or see the cases listed in the WAPF issues). I wouldn’t say a raid like this (or others), with such disregard for the choices members made and wanted, is run-of-the-mill…not on any herdshare, Amish person, or other American choosing his or her food!

      • Kate M. says:

I agree with the point you are making regarding unnecessary force. Seems like an overreaction to me, too…

      • alternefit says:

Yes, and they have consistently done such things, Kate…not just to Rawesome and Healthy Family Farms, but to many others…Amish people have not even been out of reach for them! It is crazy! I’ll post more video about it later. Updates will continue!

Thanks again! Have a healthy day!

UPDATES ON RAWESOME/HEALTHY FAMILY FARMS RAIDS:

    August 4, 2011

    Hey everyone,

Here are some updates on the court actions and rally that happened in Los Angeles. Please follow the links to see the warrant served, media coverage, and conversations and updates by Cheeseslave on Facebook.

Victoria Bloch has been released, but is still looking at a felony charge. James Stewart’s bail was reduced. He was told the condition was that he could not sell unpasteurized dairy without a permit. It is looking like the structures on the property are supposed to be destroyed, too…not sure about this. I think that the government is doing everything they can to prevent Healthy Family Farms from continuing on. It is this writer’s opinion that the raid, arrests, and continuing saga of this mess is uncalled for, unnecessary, and a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. Why do they focus on healthy foods rather than drug dealers…oh yeah, because they are or are in cahoots with the drug dealers!

Updates and opinions on warrant: http://rawearthliving.wordpress.com/2011/08/04/rawesome-foods-raid-search-warrant-reveals-government-agents-violated-search-guidelines/

    Warrant: http://www.naturalnews.com/files/RawWarrant1088-NoSSN.pdf

I encourage you to read the rawearthliving blog above. It is exactly how I feel about this situation. The warrant does include things that surely seem to lead to ways the government lackeys could try to intimidate, harass, and destroy more people’s lives by taking American freedom of choice away! Stand up for your rights! Speak up! Call representatives, donate to legal funds, protest, do what you can to speak up for healthy living and choice! After all, it was Thomas Jefferson that said:

“If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.”

STAND UP AND FIGHT! TELL THE GOVERNMENT YOU STAND FOR THE FREEDOM OUR FOUNDERS OUTLINED…AND THAT INCLUDES YOUR CHOICE TO HEALTHY, RAW, UNPROCESSED, REAL, UNTAINTED FOODS!!!! YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE…FARMERS, CO-OPS, HERDSHARES, or crap! THAT CHOICE IS YOURS, NOT THE GOVERNMENT’S!!!!

Okay, you guys. That should be enough to get you going! Stand up for your freedom! Remember what Henry Kissinger said, and let it be a waring to you: “Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world.”

Have a healthy and active day!

Here is another update from Natural News that tries to help clear up the “licensing” issue that many have been discussing. This is a good explanation of the differences in public, for sale stores and distribution points for herd-shares. It also explains why we need to stand up and fight for our rights…and what those rights actually are:

  6. alternefit says:

Yes, there is a gag order on Victoria Bloch, James Stewart, and Sharon Palmer. This is just crazy to me. It seems just another police state tactic.

Anyway, I wanted to give you all a link to Kevin Gianni’s post about this. It is very good….level-headed and well-thought-out. I appreciate his take:
